| The Bedford Park Fire Prevention Bureau was
established in 1979, its main purpose is to protect property from fire or explosion. The current
code used is the International Fire Prevention Code 2000 edition with
amendments, and the 2000 edition of the N.F.P.A. Life safety
code. We also use the ASME safety code for elevators, 2000 edition.
We also reference all N.F.P.A. standards 2001 editions.
In addition, Fire Prevention along with the Building Inspector, reviews all
the new construction, remodeling, and all sprinkler and Fire Alarm systems.
They meet every Thursday morning for such reviews. The Village also retains
Richard Solomon, P.E., as their Fire Protection Engineer. Reviews are on a
first come basis and turn around usually is between 3-4 weeks.
Fire Prevention is responsible for inspections and complete enforcement of
the Fire Prevention Code, Village Ordinances, Maintenance of records, and
investigation of cause and origins of fires within the Village.
Fire Prevention routinely inspects the buildings located within the Village,
if violations are found, the company is given 30 days to correct such
violations. After 30 days re-inspection is made, if the violation still is
not corrected, an additional 15 days will be given. After the 15 days, if
the violation is still not corrected or an extension of time requested, a
citation will be issued. |
